Road offences accused never had a driving licence court told

A Nairn man with a record for road traffic offences has never held a driving licence Wick Sheriff Court heard yesterday.
Nathan Thomson, 24, was fined a total of £660 and banned from driving for a year. He admitted a charge of careless driving and having no licence and insurance.
The court heard that he lost control of his car at Carsgoe on the A9, on July 15, and crashed into a fence, causing damage to both.
Police investigating the accident discovered the other documents offences.
Sheriff Andrew Berry commented on the fact that the accused had never passed a driving test and told him: "I am not quite sure about which part of the Road Traffic Act you don't understand" Thomson's convictions included an insurance offence and not reporting an accident.
The sheriff added: "Fortunately for you, none of your current offences allow me to send you to prison" but warned Thomson, of 29C Albyn Court, Nairn, that he could expect a jail sentence if he was caught driving while disqualified.
