Local man found not guilty of assault after case collapses
A WICK man has been cleared of an assault allegation.
Mark Aitken, 23, had denied on indictment, punching Glasgow visitor Terence Boyd causing him to fall to the ground and strike his head, rendering him unconscious, in Princes Street Thurso, on June 1, last year.
But after a jury heard evidence from only two prosecution witnesses, at Wick Sheriff Court, yesterday, fiscal David Barclay declared he was no longer seeking a conviction.
Sheriff Andrew Berry formally found Aitken, of 8 Moray View, Staxigoe, not guilty.
Fined for assaulting teenager
A WICK man was fined £180 yesterday for an assault on a teenager.
First offender, David More, 26, admitted punching the 15-year-old, in Ackergill Crescent, Wick causing him to fall to the ground.
The youngster was said to have got caught in the middle of a confrontation between the accused and another man, on June 29.
In addition to the fine, More, of 3 West Banks Terrace, Wick, was ordered to pay the teenager compensation of £100.
Accused to carry out unpaid work for breach
A NORTH man has been ordered to carry out 75 hours unpaid work in the community after admitting a breach of the peace.
Johnny Gardner, 24, was said to have been under the influence of drink when he behaved in a disorderly manner and struggled with a 15-year-old teenager, the accused thought was laughing at him, in a Thurso's Rotterdam Street, on February 17.
Gardner, of 55 Murchison Street, Wick, also admitted a number of previous convictions .
