The SNP will set out the timescale for a possible second referendum on independence in its manifesto for next year's Scottish Parliament election. But First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said she would only hold another referendum if she was confident she would win.
She said: "Our manifesto will set out what we consider are the circumstances and the timescale on which a second referendum might be appropriate, but we can only propose.
"It's then for people in Scotland, whether it is in this election or in future elections, to decide whether they want to vote for our manifesto and then if there is in the future another independence referendum, whether that's in five years or 10 years or whenever, it will be down to the people of Scotland to decide whether they want to vote independence or not.

Dunno about you people out there....but this is pretty wooly stuff...ie abandoning the principle of unequivocal commitment to seek independance the SNP gave in 2011. Now as, predicted, the line is "circumstances and timescales" ie Ms Sturgeon said a material change in circumstances, such as Scotland being taken out of the EU against its will in the forthcoming in-out referendum on UK membership, could act as a trigger for a second referendum on independence.....Note the use of COULD......... lots of maybe aye maybe no's / coulds here...no nailing the coolurs to the mast like Salmon gallously did........ also if we do get indy 2 and its succesfu,l she has a brilliant get out of jail card....well youse wanted independance, its no oor fault that the country is a busted flush......

FRom The Indeoendant................Ms Sturgeon has come under pressure from party members and opposition leaders to clarify her position on a second vote ahead of next month’s SNP conference in Aberdeen. Nicola Sturgeon said the SNP’s manifesto for the Scottish Parliament elections in 2016 would include a timescale for another vote on whether Scotland should break away from the Union, which she said could happen “in five years or 10 years or whenever”.

5 -10 years or whenever........if I was a yes voters I would want to know what this means...what does whenever mean....15 20 25 years ????

The manifesto will include a list of possible events which the SNP feels would warrant calling another referendum, such as the UK voting to leave the European Union in 2017 against the wishes of Scotland, the First Minister said.
Stewart Hosie, the party’s deputy leader, suggested yesterday that a failure by the UK Government to keep its promises on the devolution of further powers to Holyrood could also trigger a second vote, adding that any Prime Minister who tried to prevent a referendum from taking place would be “very, very foolish”...like yersel Stewart eh !!!

Idiotic statment of the 21st century has to be : “So at every single stage this is something that is driven by and decided by the people of Scotland, not by politicians.”....NO.....its driven by them.... you know....SNP politicians...... see above they are raising and driving the issue........what a stupid stupid thing to say do they honestly think that guff like this will sway no voters....duh....no !!!!!! Seems to me that they are unravelling very quickly........

It seems more like they are saying anything at anytime can trigger another push for a referendum, they put in so many reasons that it would be impossible for any Government to make decisions for the whole country without at some stage stepping across one of their material changes.

What it should read is when we feel we have a chance at winning we will take it.

Political chancing of the highest order.

Yes and they have clearly stated that when they have a chance of winning they will go for it................... First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said she would only hold another referendum if she was confident she would win. De coded.... they waat their core support to believe that this means that the governing of scotland comes second to manufacturing situations which she feels will go their way and get the yes vote across the line....fat chance........... and I dont believe any of it....its all posturing keeping up the pretence....keeping the yes vote on side.....time will out big time.....accepted meaningful analysis on the yes failure points to concerns ( still not addressed ) on 1 Currency 2 The economy.......still not explained............ and in any vote wil still stop a 51% yes.

The economic conditions for Independence currently aren't good enough for them to try running the Gauntlet of another referendum, reality is what they are hoping for is more fiscal responsibility from the Conservative party while they carry on sniping from the sidelines doing their usual act of claiming responsibility for any success and blaming Westminster for all failures.
Once they feel the economy is sufficiently robust enough they may well try another run for referendum but that would merely be down to the usual success of Conservative Governments putting the economy back on track.
By the time all this occurs they will have a good feel for the countries feelings on the EU as the vote will be in and they won't have to second guess Scotland's feelings on EU membership a current unknown.
Only problem they really have to deal with it whether or not their track record in governance remains as it is, by the time all this occurs they will have their hands on significant extra powers and will no longer be able to play the grievance card.

They cannot go for indy 2 until the economy is strong enough to sustain independance whi at the momeent it cannot, and no tory government is going to overcome the black hole in the North Sea , nor Chinese growth slow down nor US interest rate raises and their effects on UK. SO drop the bull on........ the usual success of Conservative Governments putting the economy back on track will you....Heath / Barbour, Major / Lamont....yep...amazing success stories werent they !
