Maybe you should read what is say, then your statement wouldn't come across so silly.

While I am not discounting the statistics saying that crime is at a record low, it's slightly different if you live in a high crime area, which I did before I moved here. In a way golach is quite right, a lot of crimes do go unrecorded and maybe that has something to do with the lack of Police on the streets, I don't know, but the main reason is fear.

If you reported a crime where I lived, and that could be anything from people dealing drugs in my close to a bloke outside being beaten with an iron bar, and a lot more in between. If the police turned up at your door, guaranteed, that night or during that night a lit rag would be put through your letterbox, it happened to me twice, then I gave up.

A variation of these crimes would happen on probably a daily basis in some form or other, so while I am not discounting (as I said) the stats, I know for a fact, not many crimes are reported to the Police.

Funny reading this thread when the UN says Scotland is quite a violent place where you're more likely than any of 21 others countries to be attacked. Three times more likely than America

I wonder if this shows real change. And if so, what's behind it.

Key phrase is Recorded crime, that does not mean Crime is actually down, again i point out that the snp cut the number of Call Centers, cut the number of Police stations staying manned and open, many burglaries are not even being recorded. Shows how the snp are manipulationg the figures to their own needs.

Yes but the url is from 2005. I would hope that we are not dealing with massaged figures but the scourge of knife attacks / violence is down

This is just the Record digging up dirt and being negative again. (Media Bias?) I would like to see a breakdown of these statistics before I comment on them. The Record, like many others, is famed for just twisting things to suit their agenda.........dissing the SNP. You know what that's like BT.;)

Ah so we are supposed to just accept government statistics as read but be dubious about media sources.

Used to be a time when media sources where considered invariably as more reliable than government as they have no vested interest.

But I do entirely get what you mean about people twisting their figures to appear better than they actually are.

Show me a government which hasn't done this.

It's not just SNP I mean any govt they all massage figures to suit their agenda.

Don't you find it suspect that this rather small article, which is sparse on actual data, (the point I was making) is published to coincide with the Scottish Government figures?

BetterTogether

Well if I was to be suspicious of everything then I'd end up totally paranoid look for conspiracies all over the place.

The one thing I can accept with no doubt at all is that the reporting of crime figures have been changed over the years that one issue is under no doubt.

So we then have to take a view on who has most to gain from massaging figures to look better or worse than they actually are.

When did newspapers not have vested interests, bias and mendacity!
