Warrants issued for no-show witnesses who caused trial delay

A TRIAL before a jury at Wick, was unable to proceed, today, after three prosecution witnesses failed to turn up.

Sheriff Andrew Berry issued warrants for the arrest of the trio - one a key witness- after they failed to appear.

The sheriff apologised to the court and people in the public benches, waiting to be selected for jury service, for the 'unusual' situation. They were asked to return to court tomorrow.

The accused, in the first of three cases scheduled to be heard this week, is Scott Lindsay, described as a prisoner at Inverness Prison.

He is pleading not guilty, on indictment to assaulting Darren Bruce, repeatedly punching him on the head and repeatedly striking him with a knife to his severe injury. The incident is alleged to have occurred in Stainland Drive, Thurso, on June 3, this year.

Lindsay, 39, also denies having a knife in a public place.
