Cistern washer - plumbing advice please

This job should be easy but I can't work it out. Where exactly does the replacement washer go and how do I get access to the old one?

It's normally above the waterline on the same side of the cistern as the inlet pipe.

but t'internet seems to have nothing on assembly instructions/washer replacement for them...

Is the problem that the cistern keeps filling constantly and eventually overflows into the pan? If so, it is the inlet valve that is the problem, and the washer is in the white housing at the end of the red float arm on your first link.

If the problem is that the water leaks from the cistern into the pan, but the inlet valve is opening and closing properly, the washer you need to replace is at the bottom of the outlet valve on your second link.

The plumber who fixed it before didn't (as far as I recall) have to remove the outlet valve (the one with the 2 red tops). He left behind the wrapping of a Hushflow washer as per the first pic I posted. Do you know if that washer fits into the white housing?

The white housing is fairly small, it's probably 'push on' rather than screw but I'm not sure and am fearful of breaking it - it's quite hard to get a grip of.

I'm not sure of the specifics of your individual filling valve, but there will definitely be a washer/diaphragm in the housing of your inlet/float valve.

OK thanks for all your help. I suspect my float valve is 'push-on' (to the hose) but it seems a devil of a job to get it off.
