THE debt at Wick High School has been reduced from £202,000 to £77,000 and will be zero by the end of the financial year. The figures were revealed to the school's parent council by senior Highland Council officials at a meeting in the town on Monday night.

A PILOT, who was forced to make an unscheduled landing at Stornoway Airport after refuelling in Caithness, has apparently described the emergency service response as "an overeaction". According to Far North Aviation director, Andy Bruce, the pilot of the private jet was "amazed" by the response from police, fire crews, ambulance services the RNLI and air coastguard teams which turned out as a precaution, during the incident on Sunday night.

THE far north's new MP feels a squabble over seating arrangements in the House of Commons as MPs gathered for the first time since the General Elections, was childish and unfortunate. The SNP's Paul Monaghan was at Westminster on Monday along with fellow newcomers - many of them also from the SNP - watching the unanimous re-election of John Bercow as speaker, but was concerned by Labour Party MPs apparent disregard as to the House's convention on where everyone should sit.

DOUNREAY has been the engine behind the Caithness economy for over 60 years and is partly responsible for how the county looks and works today. To find out just how big a part it has played in shaping the area, the nuclear site is set to become part of a three-year study which will analyse how it has influenced the infrastructure and physical development of the area since the 1950s.

CLEMENCY Crow is involved in a number of groups and initiatives aiming to provide opportunities to other people and introducing new projects in Wick. Now she has been recognised for her hard work as she was named winner of the Scottish Women's Convention Young Women's Achievement Award.
