SSP: Brown admits Iraq war was for economic interests

Scottish Socialist Party national convenor Colin Fox today said that
Gordon Brown had "let the cat out of the bag" over the war in Iraq
when he told the BBC's Breakfast programme on Tuesday morning that;
"We believed we were making the right decisions in the British
national economic interests."

Colin said today;
"Gordon Brown let the cat out of the bag when he admitted that
British forces were sent to invade Iraq along with the Americans for
economic reasons.
"What he meant of course was that British soldiers have been sent to
die to help secure the worlds second largest oil reserve for the
benefit of the USA with the UK government no doubt getting a
backhander for their troubles.
"It fills me with revulsion that so many people have been killed,
both innocent Iraqi civilians and the young men sent to invade a
country for the economic interests of the West.
"The Scottish Socialist Party is one hundred percent behind the
families of British troops killed in Iraq who have said they are
taking legal action against Tony Blair.
"Even if Tony Blair is returned as Prime Minister on Thursday this is
an issue that all those who campaigned against the Iraq war from the
very beginning will not let go of.
"All those hundreds of thousands who marched and campaigned against
this disastrous war can hold their heads up high and say "we were
right"."

I think we all knew from the start that this war was not about Weapons of Mass Destruction or regime change for the sake of the people of Iraq. The regime change was to suit America who wanted control of the oil.

As usual however Tony Blair and his cronies will continue to lie about the reasons, and as for his remorse for the families of all these young men who have been killed, neither he nor his pack of wolves give a hoot. Too many good men have now died for them to ever contemplate telling the truth and have to suffer the consequences of a vengeful British public.

Unfortunately I'm afraid they will all still be in Office tomorrow, but we can only hope for a miracle and perhaps get a hung parliament. :roll:

Is all the discussion about the war not a bit pointless now? I personally agree with the decision to go to war but the real point of debate is Tony Blairs two faced lies to attempt to justify his decision and since we all knew his strong point was and always has been lying what is there to discuss.
As far as getting rid of him today, I don't see that either of the two opposition parties offer anything much better. I will vote for Charles Kennedy, but as a good man for my local MP, not because I support his party.

I agree with going to war the only thing that gets me is they should have done all this the first time when they were there in the 90s.For me nato has to rewrite all the rules because were fighting different styles of wars now to what we did when nato was first started.Nato needs to get a lot tougher and not be dictated by any country even if they are super power country.

What is wrong with just going to war for oil? That is what war is all about, the haves and the have nots. I am definitely voting Labour now that a bit of honesty has crept into their campaign.

Well, mike, i was rather uncomfortable with the whole Iraq war from day one. If I was PM i would have told Bush to get lost and joined the likes of France and Germany. All that dossier stuff was just flannel, Saddam was going nowhere.If he had WMD in 2003 then he had them all the time since 1990 and the first Gulf war, so why the big change of heart and the big push to oust him? It didn't make sense to me. So in that sense, Blair was a liar only if you read between the lines in that dossier.
