HEALTH professionals have predicted plans to share consultants with hospitals in Wick and elsewhere in the Highlands will be "a disaster " and will not solve the staffing crisis in the far north. That's according to Caithness District Partnership chairman, Bil Fernie, who says NHS Highland proposals to base staff at Raigmore Hospital and transfer them to Caithness General Hospital on a shift-by-shift basis, will not be attractive to potential employees.

THE North Highland College UHI is celebrating the success of being the first outlet in the UHI network to offer a National Qualification in Sports Fitness and Health. The brand new course arrived at the college's Thurso campus, last September, and it has met with a strong and positive response from the 12 students of all ages.

POLICE stand accused of failing to deliver on their promise to clamp down on rogue parking in Wick and Thurso, since taking over traffic warden duties. Community representatives complain the problem of indiscriminate parking remains as bad as ever.

THE last in a series of log shipments to Europe from a Caithness port has been completed bringing to an end a lucrative 12-month contract. Wick Harbour waved goodbye to its 22nd and last shipment of timber which had been felled to make way for wind farms at Burn of Whilk and Stroupster.

A TWO-week police operation aimed of tackling bogus callers and associated doorstep crime, saw around 2500 information leaflets distributed to households and businesses. Police Scotland's Operation Monarda aims to bring together public private and third sector organisations to help minimise risk and prevent harm to vulnerable and old people from criminals.
