Whilst installing gas central heating what is the best way to proceed- install a gas fire & boiler in the sitting room fire place or put a boiler in a cupboard in a room?

I would expect boiler in cupboard would be more efficient.
I believe that the back boiler versions now come with an electric "fire" not a gas fire.

Get a Gas Safe Engineer to do a survey of your property and they will advise the best alternative for your property.

We have the old style Baxi boiler behind a gas fire in the living room and the hot water tank in a cupboard beside it. It can be a bit noisy if there is a NNE wind as it whistles down the chimney a bit, but at least when the hydro is off we have one room we can keep warm in, and a gas cooker to make hot food and drinks.

The council are replacing this old style heating with new combi boilers, either in a cupboard or on the kitchen wall as they are supposed to be better, but there have been a lot of problems with the installation and leaks afterwards and pressure keeps dropping.

Gas safe survey is the way to go before making a huge investment.
