Blood smear on officer was 'disgusting' says sheriff

A SHERIFF described as "disgusting" the act of a teenager who smeared blood from a head wound he had sustained in a street incident, onto a police officer's clothing.
Marc Hooker admitted charges of assault and a breach of the peace. He was caught on CCTV cameras involved in a fight in Princes Street, Thurso, on March 29, last year.
Police officers interviewed him at his home at 17 Smith Terrace, Thurso, later, Wick Sheriff Court, was told, yesterday.
David Barclay, prosecuting, said that rather than be co-operative, Hooker, 19, he began rubbing blood from his wound onto the arm of one constable's uniform.
Mr Barclay added: " Fortunately it was over his clothing but was none the less unpleasant."
Sheriff Andrew Berry said that he understood that in certain such cases the victim would not be able to donate blood for a period of time".
He ordered Hooker, who was said to have remembered nothing of the incident because of the amount of drink he had consumed, to carry out 135 hours of unpaid community work.
