A WICK High School pupil is spearheading a HIghland-wide campaign to stop study leave being scrapped for fourth fifth and sixth year pupils at secondary schools throughout the region. Oveer 1,200 youngsters have signed Scott Cormack's petition for the "SAve our Study Leave" campaign, designed to head-off plans by Highland Council to require senior pupils to be in the classroom during the exam period in May and June.

ANGRY parents are reaching boiling point over the reliability of school buses after reporting seven breakdowns within 11 days. One concerned mother has lost all confidence in the Stagecoach service which she described as "a fiasco".

TRIBUTES have been flooding in following the sudden death of far north active sports co-ordinator Garry Maclod. Wick-based Mr Macleod failed to recover after becoming unwelll overnight at the house where he lived with his wife Caroline and young son.

A SURVEY is underway on the seabed wreck of the cargo ship which sank in the Pentland Firth with the loss of all eight crew members. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch is spearheading the examination of the 80-metre long Cemfjord which went down east of the Pentland Skerries on January 2.

A TEAM of Wick High School younsters are about to launch their very own app to the wider world following its success at a prestigious competition. The group called Chore Attack won the Productivity categorty at the Apps For Good Awards, last June and now their app is to become available in the Apple App store. The app is designed to encourage work-shy children and flatmates to do their fair share of the housework.

THE new sub-sea power link between Caithnesss and Moray is set to create 600 jobs after a final funding package was accepted by Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission. Offgems's £1.1 billion financial offer for the project, was taken up by SHE Tranmission on Friday, even though it was £174 million less than what it asked for.

WICK ACADEMY goalkeeper Sean McCarthy has pledged his long-term future to the club after agreeing a new deal to stay at Harmsworth Park. The 21-year-old signed an extension to his contract at the Caithness Club although the length of the deal has not been revealed by the Scorries.
