NHS Highland turned down an offer from a locum consultatnt surgeon at Caithness General to remain at the hospital if he was given a long-term contract. That is the claim made this week, in the wake of the decision by the health authority to stop 24-hour surgical provision at the Wick hospital. It did so after one consultant retired and another resigned leaving just one in post.
