A CAITHNESS FAMILY has been hit by tragedy for the second time in 11 years. John Henderson, who was about 40, died in hospital in Glasgow on Sunday night. It is understood he recently developed heart problems and was on the transplant register. He was being treated at Caithness General Hospital in Wick but was later transferred to a hospital in Clydebank where he died at the weekend.
A FIRE at Dounreay, which released radioactivity into the atmosphere, had the potential to become a major incident according to the chairman of the site's liaison group. David Flear, who chairs Dounreay Stakeholder Group, expressed concern about the outbreak and wants action to be taken to ensure such accidents do not occur in future.

A CONTROVERSIAL plan to cut the primary school day by 30 minutes to save £3.2 million, has been dropped by Highland Council after parents and teachers opposed the move. The decision was welcomed by landward Caithness councillor Matthew Reiss who claims the proposal had been rushed through.
LOCAL motorsports fanatic Ashleigh Morris was one of this year's five rising stars selected by the Scottish Motor Racing Club. The award recognises young drivers whose promise on the track is backed up by a professional approach off it. It featured the chance to visit the McLaren GT and Formula One technology centre and production centre in Woking.
