Brora Rangers 0 v Wick Academy 2 at Dudgeon Park, Brora

report from www.highlandleague.net by reporter: Alan Farquhar

Brora finish on a low 20-Apr-2005

Wick Academy named James More as their stand in goalkeeper while David Cowie came in to replace Martin Gunn in the centre of the park meanwhile Gordon Mackenzie slotted straight back into the Brora Rangers side having missed the weekend’s 2-2 draw with Lossiemouth through suspension.

The Scorries created the first opening of the evening with Nigel Mackenzie sent clear by a well weighted Gary Manson throughball but the striker failed to test Michael Rae, firing wide.

A deep Jordan Macdonald free kick from inside his own half was met by Martin Macdonald 12 yards out but the red head placed his header just wide of James More’s net. There was another near miss from a Jordan Macdonald free kick when John Colquhoun came within inches of getting on the end of the dangerous ball for what would have been an easy finish.

In an action replay of the first chance of the evening Nigel Mackenzie was sent clear by Gary Manson but this time the striker’s attempted lob fell just wide of the right hand upright.

Ironically Mackenzie was to make it a hat-trick of misses just six minutes later when, having been sent clear by David Cowie he once again pushed his effort wide of the target leaving things scoreless at the end of the first half.

In true Ally McCoist fashion Nigel Mackenzie took his fourth chance of the evening to silence his critics. Picking up a long ball that had been flicked through by Gary Weir he evaded the challenge of Jordan Macdonald and fired the ball high over Michael Rae and into the roof of the net from 18 yards.

Wick doubled their advantage with twelve minutes remaining when Gary Manson’s deep corner found Craig Shearer arriving late at the back post and he duly nodded the ball beyond Michael Rae to put the visitors further ahead.

John Colquhoun very nearly pulled one back for Brora with a fantastic free kick that seemed destined for the top corner but young James More got a hand to it and turned it away for a corner securing a clean sheet.
