Yes there is a connection - if you saw telly today, it came from Bristol on board the S.S.Great Britain. I immediatley blocked out what the Reporter was saying and let my mind wander back to the very early days of the S.S. Great Britain when on the start of her fourth voyage she ran ashore on the coast of Ireland.
I now quote from John Mowat's book "Every effort was made and all the skill and genius of the naval and engineering world was called forth with a view to saving the ill-fated ship, but without avail.
The expense had been enormous and all hope was abandoned . It was not till then that JAMES BREMNER was looked to. .....He was in no way discouraged by the previous futile attempts.....along with his son Andrew he left for Ireland taking with him all his salvage appliances.... "

A Liverpool paper, after giving a full descriptive report of the rejoicings in the city, concludes by giving all praise to Mr Bremner, through whose practical talent the vessel was got off......

Well done James Bremner.

this verse follows the article in John Mowat's book:
" We live in deeds, not years, in thoughts, not breaths;
In feelings, not in figures on a dial.
We should count time by heart-throbs. He most lives
Who thinks most, feels the noblest, acts the best"

A verse for the Politicians perhaps....
