I have just read about the waste lorry fire at Berriedale. Can anyone tell me what is being taken to Seater for landfill? Where does the waste come from? And what is the content of the waste? I also overtook a "specialist waste haulier" on the A9 tonight heading north near Helmsdale. Any ideas what it would be carrying? Who is paying who? What is the money being used for? What is going on?

Seater is used by the Highland Council for waste from around the Highlands, has been for yonks.

Not sure what the "specialist waste haulier" would be carrying or where to, but it could have been coming up empty to take "specialist waste" down South.

There's a Glasgow based company that have 2 wagons that bring 4-6 loads of household waste to Seater from the isle of Skye every week between them, Also Yuill & Dodds take waste into there too, so Caithness is indeed being used as a dumping ground for everyone else's trash!

I imagine it will be providing income to offset the punitive Landfill Tax that all councils have to pay based on volume dumped at each site. If you don't want to see these lorries, stop chucking stuff away and recycle.

Yes its a Rubbish Dump - one just has look around at all the so called 'Power Generators' (windmills) - Tesco Sites - Dounreay storage silos etc etc!!

There is a very steady procession of these lorries every day. maybe time for an FOI request asking the numbers, quantity of load and cost?

Eh? it's not Caithness that is responsible for the trash in the trucks, it's everywhere else in the highlands such as Skye, Inverness etc etc so don't blame the locals!

Just wait until they pelletise the combustable waste and used it in the old CHaP scheme now Ignis. Them the trouble will be airborne and not just under your feet.

Is Caithness a rubbish dump?

As dumps go, Caithness isn't that rubbish at being one. Decades of practice I suspect! ;)

That'll be why the Orkney lot come to live here.

The worst rubbish that gets dumped in Caithness is the general assortment of goons, schizos, and social failures who move (or get moved) up here from the south. There seems to be a net import of nutters in the area.
