Accused made threats after assaulting neighbour

COLIN MacNeill assaulted an elderly neighbour and threatened him a few days later in public.
The assault incident took place on June 12, in Calder Square, Castletown, where they both reside.
James Grant fell to the ground after being kicked by MacNeill, 30, and was given a hospital check-up as a precaution.
There was further trouble when 59-year-old Mr Grant was accosted again on his way home, in the village, Wick Sheriff Court heard yesterday.
MacNeill, of 9 Calder Square, Castletown, was said to have threatened: “This is not done and dusted” and “I will get you”, or something similar.
David Barclay, prosecuting , said that the cause of the problem, wasn’t known.
MacNeill, who appeared from custody, admitted charges of assault and threatening behaviour and a record, and was remanded for a background report, until August 8 when Sheriff Andrew Berry will also consider a non-harassment order.

Chores trigger window smashing

THE sequel to a difference over household chores led to Gary Robertson throwing stones at his partner’s house.
Robertson , 29, admitted damaging the property where he lives, at 9 Barrogill Street, Wick, on July 5, when he appeared from custody.
The incident followed the chores difference, the previous night when the couple had been drinking.
Mr Barclay, prosecuting said that Robertson was outside the house when he threw the stones around 7am, smashing two windows.
Sheriff Andrew Berry remanded the accused in custody pending a verbal social work report on Friday, pointed out that Robertson had been granted bail only three weeks earlier and was currently carrying out unpaid work for a domestic issue.

Parking issue sparked abuse

George Newlands was under the influence of alcohol when he tried to sort out a parking issue at the home of his girlfriend.
But he ended up shouting abuse at the neighbour he claimed was blocking his girlfriend’s driveway.
Newlands, 39, of 26a Glamis Road, Wick admitted threatening or abusive behaviour in the town’s Corner Crescent, on March 25. He will be sentenced on Friday after Sheriff Berry hears a verbal report from a social worker.
