What's the deal on finding fossils at Achanarras Quarry? Do you have to leave them where they are?
What if you find a fossil in your back garden? Is it legal to stick it on ebay?

If you find a fossil in your back garden, you should return it an once to the Nursing home!!

It doesn't say you can't keep them however it is a Scottish Natural Heritage and you need to write to them to gain permission to enter the site.

I'd love to find a fossil.

They have rules, just hammers and chisels, no power tools drills explosives etc. People have gone up there equipped to move tons of rock and strip the site of fossils.
You are only allowed to look through the spoil heaps, but they tell you all that when you get permission. There were regular guided trips up there showing what you find and explaining how they got there and what they are, worth going if there is one this summer.
Enjoy - our kids and I did
