I have just had a report, albeit a couple of days late, of a pod of 10 - 15 sperm whales (possibly mothers and calfs) spotted on saturday off Berriedale.
The person who spotted them is very good at this, and even he was unsure at first as they have no dorsal fin.
There is no saying they are still around but if you see this pod it would be great if you could let us know please, as their primary diet is squid, but not the variety found in the north sea :(
Hopefully this was just a pod exploring that has gone back to deep water, but if they are spotted still around the east coast then they could do with being watched as they may well up in trouble.
