East v West Football under 13s & 15s in the Dammies, Courtesy of TFC, spectators welcome.

Children’s Fancy Dress, judging beside Caithness Horizons, entry free

Mina MacKay’s Highland Dancers Display, Sir John’s Square.

Judging of Floats Traill Street, entry free.

Gala Crowning Ceremony & Pride of Thurso Award in Sir John’s Square followed by the Parade



of Floats & Fancy Dress Walkers, led by Thurso Pipe Band, Caithness Junior Pipe Band the
Gala Queen, her Court & their Guard of Honour Kuk Sool Won.



Highland Dancers Display Princess Street after the Parade.

Fishing Competition, Thurso Beach Catch & Release. Entry £10 monies returned in prizes.

Precinct Entertainment, amusements, stalls, bungee trampolines in council car park.

Family Disco Pentland Hotel, entry Adults £2.50 Children free but must be accompanied by an adult.

Pub Entertainment, Doon Major Holborn Hotel. Donations welcome

Autocross Competition Bardnaheigh Farm Shebster road, entry £3 children under ten are free.

Baby show, Thurso Club £2.50 per Baby. Forms at Sutherlands Chemist, Cairngorm Windows or at the event.

Car Treasure Hunt, leaving from the Thurso Club & returning there for the results, entry £5 per car.

Rhyme Time Thurso Club, provided by OCA Ltd, entry £2.50

Guided Walk starting at the Town’s Clock donations to Thurso Heritage Society.



Tuesday 15th July

Teddy Bears Picnic & games for under 7 years, Thurso Club, prizes for best dressed teddies, entry £2.50.

3K fun run/walk is open to all ages but under 8 years must be accompanied by an adult, entry £3.

5K run - (over 15years only), entry £5. Registration at Thurso Youth Club, Millbank, Thurso from

Friday 18th July

Silver Sightseers (for over 55 years old) Mystery Bus Trip entry £2.50 which includes Tea or coffee.



Places must be pre booked by calling 01847 891789. The Mystery Bus Trip starts at the riverside Ellen bridge car park. The event has been provided by OCA Ltd.

Pudding Night Thurso Club Janet Street, try various desserts. To guarantee entry please purchase a ticket



from Cairngorm Windows or McBeath Jewellers Adult £5 Child £2.50.

Gala Programme Extras


Float Fund, It is at the discretion of the TTIA to award up to £50 per registered float taking part in the Gala Parade, prize winning floats are excluded. You may register floats by emailing info@thurso.org by 11th July 2014.


Sea Boat Fishing Competition; contact Harpers Fishing Tackle shop for more info.

Thurso School’s Annual Gala Competition, Topic – Vikings, entries will be displayed in Caithness Horizons in August.

Red Herring & Word Competitions are available from Cairngorm windows and McBeath Jewellers from the 1st July.
Colouring Competition is available from Cairngorm windows All competitions apart from the photo one must be returned to Cairngorm Windows by Monday 21st July 12.00 noon.

Caithness Strongman Competition 17th August 13:00 Thurso Harbour Car Park.

12th July 12:00-16:00 Viking Encampment, living history activities with the Glasgow Vikings at Caithness Horizons.

12th July 13:00-16:00 RNLI Thurso Life Boat Summer Fayre, Fish Market, Scrabster.

Participating in or running the following activities will be at your own risk, TTIA’s Insurance does not cover you for:
The gala parade, any water or beach events, fun runs or walks, races, sports, side-shows or inflatables, animal events, car boot sales, running a stall or sales table, operating machinery or vehicles. Anything not run by the TTIA personally is classed as third party. Some events may be covered by the other group’s own insurance.

Thurso Town Improvements Association & the Northern Constabulary wish to remind the Public that COIN THROWING
can cause serious injuries and may lead to a criminal conviction. For the SAFETY of everyone please DO NOT throw coins inappropriately or allow children to do so.

If you wish to take a dog to any outdoor events, please ensure it is on a lead and is properly supervised.

Please do not smoke in any spectator’s areas or in queues at events.

Strictly no alcohol is permitted to be brought into events. Alcohol can only be consumed in allocated areas and purchased
at the event; otherwise you will be breaking the law.

Photographs: Any photos taken by the TTIA or approved photographers may be used in future promotions or displayed on Social Networks such as facebook.


All TTIA profits are distributed to projects within the Caithness area.
