I write to you regarding the recent cuts that are to be made to pupil support at Mount Pleasant School. These cuts are unfair and will have a direct negative impact on every child within the school. Mount Pleasant School is unique in that it offers the only Enhanced Provision Unit in Thurso for children with additional needs. The hours for pupil support within the Enhanced Provision Unit have NOT been ring-fenced when the decision was made to cut hours, therefore children that require additional support will now not be sufficiently supported. Likewise, should hours be transferred from the mainstream section of the school to the Enhanced Provision Unit then the children within mainstream that require additional support will also suffer.
There is a Parent Council meeting being held at Mount Pleasant School on Tuesday, 2nd July 2014 at 7pm. We would welcome the support of our councillors at this meeting, and also somebody representing Highland Council to come along and explain their decision regarding these cuts and identify the impact that this will have on the children within the school.
