Mr CP is on a Landrover forum and they have recently asked if there Orger's would Donate to the forum using paypal.
How do other's feel if they were asked to contribute to this forum.?:)

for my own two cents worth...not much, I know...to be presented with a poll asking "whether or not I would donate" the answer is "no"...I haven't a scoobie as to why you want me to donate, or what I'm donating for!

Give me a bit more information, and the answer may have been different!

Just a question Rockchick?
Know one on Mr Cp forum was asked for donations it just appeared on the top bar beside members list etc.
Personelly if I wasn't asked directly I'd tend to give something.
I'd see it as my contribution for the service i was using and enabling it to continue.:)

The idea was mooted in a post (http://forum.caithness.org/showpost.php?p=184209&postcount=13) a little while ago but Admin suggested that, as a business, it wouldn't really be the done thing. I thought it was a good idea myself - especially if it would help speed things up a bit.

Donate - yes, if it meant we got a new faster server and didn't keep getting kicked out fo the chat on quiz nights, its so frustrating

pay a mandatory membership fee - no way

I happily donate to several community websites.

But I would not contribute to a commercial one such as this.

It was myself that offered to contribute to the org, as i said it is a great site
& a lot of us get great pleasure from it so why could, nt we make a donation toward the upkeep of it. as Bill Fernie said to get a dedicated server would cost in the region of £1300 or so . that sum split between us all would be nominal. :~( And if it stops all the probs we,ve been experiencing lately it will be well worth it.

This poll is closed but I think with regards to Bill's comments maybe its time for another one.

What I was trying to do was reply to the slow thread and put in this link/version of events and not resurect an old thread.:confused

Answere's on a postcard please.

Thanks for bringing the thread back, cp....I knew there had been one!

It might well be time for a new poll on the subject...right now I'd probably fall into the "think about it" group. :confused

Would it be a subscription, or a one -off donation you were thinking of?

I belong to a couple of forums where members pay a modest annual sub, but they are not part of commercial sites, purely forums for members to help each other with research and advice on matters of common interest, and there is no site advertising contributing towards running costs.... therein lies the difference. Although we may not think of it that way, our forum here is only one part of a commercial site.
