having visitors this weekend and have heard people talking about Peedie Beach -is it open access to anyone and safe > Does anyone have directions please -live just 4 miles outside wick

Go to Dwarick Pier just past Dunnet then go over the hill track. The beach is a little tricky to get down to so you need reasonably good shoes or boots. Map ref http://binged.it/1iJRmjs

Access is down over rocks and boulders (it was the last time I was there!)

Another option is to drive up to The House of the Northern Gate (Big White House on hill above Dunnet) You can park car near there and follow marked track down to peedie sands. As previous poster says you have to clamber down a very steep bit to get onto beach but well worth it if you take care.

In the olden days this beach used to be called "The peedie sannie" or "the sannie ower e hill"

Make sure the tide is out or there won't be much beach !
