Thank you for posting this trinkie. I used it to help a young chap yesterday who was looking for famous folk who had died a long time ago for his homework. Sad think is he wanted to know if I had known Thomas personally !!!

Hope we see photos soon.

If you had known him personally, i'd be over like a shot to learn the secret of eternal youth!

For many years I have admired the work done by this great man and felt that he lived in the shadow of Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

When we lived in Shropshire much of his work was evident in that locality, in particular the iron bridge at Coalport, https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ironbridge&biw=1360&bih=620&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=0mFfU9r1CZOI7AbGr4DQAw&sqi=2&ved=0CFkQsAQ
And Saint Mary Magdalene church in Bridgnorth, http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CDcQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.achurchnearyou.com%2Fbridgnor th-st-mary-magdalene%2F&ei=R2JfU8yAJ4eNO56ngIAP&usg=AFQjCNFVi6-bqvzTKhUv5fvYB_X_JwUrVA

I wrongly assumed that he was from that part of world and it wasn't until we moved to Wick that it became more apparent that he was Scottish and had a big influence in the building of what was described as the first purpose built industrial estate being Pulteneytown. When you consider all the small parish churches that was built to his design and the Caledonian Canal, http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=9&cad=rja&uact=8&sqi=2&ved=0CFYQFjAI&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.visitlochness.com%2Fthings-to-do%2Fcaledonian-canal.php&ei=1mNfU6miFpOS7Aa7toGYAQ&usg=AFQjCNFtcwDObG4D46NSnBnVdSZmmfbnfA, it makes you wonder how he managed to cram so much into his lifetime.

Thank you Kevin.
You sent some interesting links which I'm sure Poppett's friend will find useful.
Good for you to suggest this man Poppett - he certainly is my hero. He was so skilled and in demand
but remained humble and generously sent money to a Teacher who had become blind and so unable
to work and earn a living.

Many thanks

About 6 yrs ago I went to a Thomas Telford Exhibition in Berriedale Church, put together by a ady called Jenny Bruce. It was jam packed with photos and loads of written descriptions and stuff. I suppose it will all be stored at the heritage centre now.
