Here's an idea from Russia (http://www.nuclear.ru/eng/about/) that could help Dounreay improve its standing in the community:

The Miss Atom-2007 Beauty Contest (http://miss2007.nuclear.ru/eng/) is carried out in two stages. The contestants are to place their pictures and answers to a brief questionnaire on the Contest website: http://miss2007.nuclear.ru (http://miss2007.nuclear.ru/).

From February 20 till March 6 the Miss Atom-2007 website visitors can vote on-line for candidates. The Contestants will be rated and winners determined by the voting results.I suggest that the NDA (and/or UKAEA) should hold a Miss Dounreay-2007 Beauty Contest. Let's banish the PC Brigade to their bunkers momentarily and let the world see the best of Caithness womenfolk in all their glory.

Does anyone have a phone number for the local boss of the NDA? I'll give him a call and suggest that they sponsor it.

I read about the contest in this month's Physics World (http://physicsweb.org/articles/world/20/3). As The Pepsi Challenge might say - you couldn't make it up.

Get voting! The ballot closes on March 6.

They're still going strong but the years, alas, have taken their toll on these beauties:

this one is quite sad really. cant remember this womans name but she was married to a multi millionaire and she was striving for looks & youth ,likely to keep her hubby, after a few botched ops she got other plastic surgeons to try and fix her face but it had gone to far . now she is left like this.
very sad as she was very beautifull before undertaking facial surgery.
in fact i after writing this i feel guilty now for posting it

Johno, she's usually known as "the Bride of Wildenstein" - see Wiki >>>here<<< (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jocelyn_Wildenstein) for background. No pictures, mercifully. And yes, she used to be beautiful.

I can't help feeling that people who do this (I'm thinking Pete Burns (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Burns), too) have huge problems with self-loathing. Before the event, as well as after. Sad.

I reckon Olivia Neutron-Bomb (Newton-John) is the best candidate so far. Even at the age of 58, she is still a beautiful blonde bombshell! :-)

That is not a picture of Olivia now. She has been on US TV lately and sadly it appears she has decided to go the way of the knife rather than aging gracefully.

For more examples of why the latter is the preferred course, look at http://www.awfulplasticsurgery.com/

That is a shame. I was doing evening bar work to supplement a very meagre income in 1978 when she was on TV - in the black catsuit thingummybobber - "You're the one that I want", from Grease. We'd have Top of the Pops on the TV over the bar and when she was on the place just stopped. Every week.

I've seen a recent picture of her and in my opinion she doesn't look like she's had any surgery. Her face looks a little thinner, but I don't think she's had a face lift as the eyes are still all wrinkley and her nose looks perfectly normal lol. (I only need to gain a couple of lbs and my face looks really round, lose a lb or two and it looks like I'm sucking my cheeks in)
