Yes let's hope the clouds stay away as it would be really good to see the eclipse.:D

If it does turn out to be too cloudy in Caithness, or for anyone who might not be able to get outside to have a look >>>This Site<<< (http://www.xs4all.nl/~carlkop/maaneclips2007/leclips2007.html)sponsored by Astronet will be showing live webcasts of the eclipse from observatories in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain.

It also provides links to a number of other groups who will be doing webcasts...including one in Birmingham, and another in Cambridge.

I'm really hoping for a clear night up here, though. :)

When is it - looked out, sky clear but cannot see moon at all, is it happening just now - in the Western Isles

Just checked again - its just happening - now rusty reddy brown film over it.

It's like watching paint dry. Moon, a bit less moon, even less moon, quite a bit less moon, no moon.

I even wasted time taking a photo (quite a poor one) when it was kinda a bit moon / a bit dark.

Apparantly it'll be turning a sort of bronze colour shortly.... wow, I can't wait :confused

Give me a good old fireworks display any day of the week.

Wow, Grumpyhippo - excellent photos. What kit did you use? I tried with my Olympus and a 125mm lens but everything was so much smaller. Will post my photos later.

A Nikon D50 and 70-300mm lens, 400 asa and round about 10th sec @ f5.6. I also used a tripod.

I stood next to the T.I.C. in Thurso and watched the eclipse for a while. It was beautiful. While I watched it a barn owl flew low over me. What a wonderful moment.

If I knew everyone was going to post such great photos I could have stayed in out of the cold!

It was lovely to see though and, as Danc1ngwitch said, quite moving to think that lots of people would be looking at the moon at the same time.

Paul my sister saw a flashing light as well but don't know what it was?!

GrumpyHippo,
Similar kit to me - D70 and 70-300 Nikkor lens with tripod. I played around with the settings trying to get a decent shot.
Still looked better through my binos though.

Here are three of mine. Managed to capture the entire sequence and have made a slide show - don't know if I can post it here.

What you can't see in these pics (so far) is the surface of the Moon which is in shadow - it was clear when viewing through binos but the brightness of the surface was hiding the shadow area.

I found it difficult to get just the right exposure - anyone have more luck?

Stood outside with my son and brother-in-law for an hour or so, watching it from beginning to full shadow. It was amazing. Also saw one of the brightest shooting stars I've ever seen. It lit the sky up for an instant.

The pictures are fantastic everyone. I've got one set as my desktop background now. Really wonderful.

What amazing pics, everyone! I didn't take any myself, but when I gazed up at the moon at 7pm here last night in Virginia, it looked like the photos in grumpyhippo's post 16. The only difference was that the bright white crescent was at the lower left, instead of at the top.

Was watchin the highlights o the fitbaw on"Match o' the day".When Cedric Jr shouts doon to me,"Dad,look oot the windae(aye he has picked up ma Ayrshire accent too),look at the moon."

What a sight......an orangey red ball of moon that put a wee bit o' a difference into ma days.Ye've got to marvel at the universe, cos we are just lodgers.

Why did it make a difference.Cos for once us in Caithness got a good sight withoot a flamin big cloud comin along and spoiling it all.C'mon how many aw ye have had someone phonin ye and sayin did ye see that, and ye havin to say"I didnae see it there was a muckle big cloud in front o' it"
