This football size object is washed up onto the rocks. It is solid and very heavy and by the three pin type plug on the end I guessed it may be some type of maritime battery.

Could be an unexploded bomb...

Show photos to harbour master and coastguards, they usually have seen enough bits and bobs to give a rough idea or call in appropriate folk.

Come on Kevin - any nearer to finding out?

You could try the polis - between them they may come up with one suggestion.

The general opinion on my Facebook page is that it could be a compressor off a fridge. Several fridge freezers were washed up on this coastline about six years ago so it ties in with that.
Not quite as glamorous or exciting as finding a UXB, but a lot safer.

My plan for today was to set up my video camera on a tripod at a safe distance and zoom in, then fire at it with an air rifle. If you see a mushroom cloud go up over the North East coast it will be safe to say "it isn't a compressor".

Definately a compressor out of a fridge or freezer. Saw one or two different types in my time at Norfrost a few years ago. Recognised it instantly.

yep. Compressor. There might still be oil in it......
