You won't go far wrong with this Gav1.

Save up as big a deposit as you can.
Don't borrow more than 3.5 times your salary if your in a steady job.
Get a straight forward repayment mortgage unless you envisage having lots of savings which in that case you may want to think about an offset.
Take into account you other expenditure, car loans, insurances etc.

Generally mortgage advisors are on commission and do what's best for them, not you. Ask any advisor you go to see how many endowment mortgage claims they are sorting out at the moment. If it's more than 1. Stay clear.

Go online, check out the banks. It's just what your mortgage advisor will do.
