Two admit possession but claim cocaine was mainly for own use

POLICE, who stopped a northbound car on the A9, in Caithness, discovered a rucksack containing
cocaine with a street value of £5000.
However it was claimed at Wick Sheriff Court, yesterday, that most of the haul was for the personal use of two men arrested, Michael Shearer, 27 and 24-year-old Mark Mackay.
The pair, who live in the same Wick street, admitted on indictment, being possession of 120 grams of the Class A drug at Latheron, on April 19, last year, with intent to supply to another.
The drugs were contained in five plastic bags.
David Barclay, prosecuting, said that although it had been a joint enterprise, the two accused were intending to share the bulk of the drugs between themselves.
Solicitor George Mathers, for Mackay, of 29 Seaforth Avenue, Wick, stressed that the cocaine was not a commercially-led enterprise. The accused had been a drug addict at the time but was now drug free.
The pair will remain on bail until April 1 when Sheriff Andrew Berry will consider a background report and hear mitigation before passing sentence. Shearer lives at 48 Seaforth, Avenue, Wick.
