http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6391075.stm The more the cost the more we are all going to pay There is no way the lottery contributions are going to cover any thing like the cost of this increase There have already been bleatings from SE English MPs regarding the lack of budgetary control on this project but at least their constituents will perhaps benefit unlike the folks up here.. This comes at a time when the government has been walloped in the courts for not offering to pay enough to people who lost their pensions when their companies collapsed ..when carers are made worse off due to a change in the minimum wage rules....and to make it a little more local as Squidge pointed out there has been a shameful lack of investment in Social Housing

pps I also see this morning that Lord Coe has no idea what the final cost will be ...and he is helping run the thing!!

Not to mention troops in Iraq with poor / obsolete equipment which is in any case in short supply; that the "envy of the modern world" - aka the NHS in case you didn't recognise the description - is now re-targeted the other day by Our Blair so that people referred by a GP will see a specialist in "only" 18 weeks; that hospitals are so filthy and shambolic that death rates from MRSA are up 39% in the past year and from Clostridium, 69%; that our schools are apparently turning out kids who can't write English (http://forum.caithness.org/showpost.php?p=194003&postcount=20) and aspire only to herbal relief and makeup; that there's no money available for certain drug treatments if you happen to live in the wrong postcode; and that within a few years the total unfunded liabilities for public sector pensions will exceed £1,000,000,000,000, having regard to the increasing generosity of their salaries and the increasing longevity of people. On, and on..... But rejoice! The politicians are all OK!

I think someone, somewhere, has their priorities wrong. [disgust] There's time enough for grandiose gestures when the government's sorted out the country we live in. Government is pretty much responsible for the mess it's in, anyway.
