Jury take only 38 minutes to find three not guilty
THREE men have been cleared of an allegation of serious assault at Wick Sheriff Court today.
The trio Gordon MacNab, senior, 40, and 22-year-olds Kris Campbell and Scott Davidson were found not guilty by a jury which returned their verdicts after deliberating for only 38 minutes.
It ended a four-day trial in which they were accused of repeatedly punching and kicking Wick plumber Ryan Malcolm, 22, to his severe injury and permanent impairment outside the Waterfront nightclub in the early hours of June 2, 2012.
The verdicts were unanimous in the case of Davidson, of Meiklejohn Court, Thurso and Campbell, of South Street, Keiss and by a majority in the case of Gordon MacNab. The three and MacNab's son, Gordon Colin MacNab had denied the indictment.
The charge against him was dropped by the prosecution earlier in the week.
Afterwards Gordon MacNab, senior, said the case had been an ordeal hanging over them for eighteen months and they were relieved it was all over.
