Two caught in police festive drinks-driving campaign
TWO glasses of wine put Vivienne Allan over the drinks driving limit, Wick Sheriff Court has been told.
Allan 63, of Shore Street, Thurso, admitted driving her car with excess alchol, on December 21. She was fined £350 and banned for a year.
It was stated that she appeared to be having difficulty in parking her car at the Meadowland car park, near the Thurso Co-op and a policeman there, making unrelated inquiries became suspicious.
Allan was arrested and tests revealed a breath-alcohol count of 58mgs – the limit is 35mgs.
Sheriff Andrew Berry heard that it was her first road traffic offensive in 24 years trouble-free driving.
ANOTHER casualty of the police festive drinks driving campaign, Graham Thomson, was fined £400 and banned for a year.
Stopped by police on the North Road, Wick, on December 14, Thomson, 59, was said to have been a “morning-after-the-night-before” offender. Tests revealed a breath-alcohol level of 100mgs, more than twice the legal limit.
The 59-year-old was travelling the short distance from his home in Bignold Court, Wick, to Tesco, at the time.

Wrong kids on receiving end of disorderly behaviour

A WICK man who admitted disorderly behaviour has been ordered to carry out 60 hours unpaid community work.
The incident occurred in Wellington Street, Wick on August 29. The court heard that Alexander Durrand was sometimes the target of pranks by some teenagers. They had been kicking a ball against his front door on August 29 and took to their heels when they heard him opening it.
He was greeted by some young kids who were innocent of causing the nuisance but he jumped to the wrong conclusion believing them to be “guilty” and burst their ball.
Sheriff Andrew Berry, who saw a background report said that the accused appeared to be addressing his abuse of alcohol.
