"Some areas of pitch were really soft" says Wick boss

THE Wick Academy and Brora managers have endorsed referee Graham Fraser’s decision to cancel Saturday's crucial second-leg derby tie at Harmsworth Park, report’s today’s Press and Journal.
The game was postponed half-an-hour before kick-off leaving supporters frustrated and a bit bewildered. The pitch had been ruled playable at 9am on Saturday and with no rain since, it was assumed the all-important clash would take place.
Wick boss Barry Wilson described the late call-off as “very disappointing" but justified.
He said: “Graham felt some areas of the pitch were inconsistent. He took myself and Davie Kirkwood to them and we agreed we would both back him on whatever call he made.”
Wilson added: “It was a beautiful day for football but there were two or three areas of the park which were really soft. If you were running onto those you may have lost your boot or something like that.”
The decision will be a costly one for Academy as the replay, almost certain to be on a Wednesday night, will attract a greatly reduced crowd.
