Dangerous driver must carry out 250 hours unpaid work
A LYBSTER driver has been ordered to carry out 250 hours unpaid work and banned for two years after admitting that he drove dangerously in Sutherland, reports the Press and Journal today.
Alistair Kennedy, who was sentenced at Tain Sheriff Court yesterday, must also pass an extended driving test before he gets his driving licence back.
The offence took place on the A9 Inverness-Thurso road between the Dornoch Bridge and its junction with the A949 and on the A949 between Clashmore and Opisdale and elsewhere, on April 21 this year.
The court was told that police were driving at 85-90mph through the 40mph limit at Clashmore and were not catching up with Kennedy's Passat.
Defence solicitor George Mathers told the court that his client , a forklift driver who lives in Shelligoe Road, Lybster, had "a significant record" for driving while disqualified and eight convictions for driving without insurance.
Mr Mathers added: "Having been disqualified from the age of 17 to 30, last year he took lessons for the first time and passed his driving test."
