But guilty of incident at nightclub jury decides
A Thurso man has been cleared of stalking his ex-girlfriend.
But James Brims was found guilty by a jury of threatening or abusive behaviour toward dental nurse, Anita Macleod at a Christmas dance in Skinandi’s nightclub in Thurso, on December 23, last year.
Brims, 39, had denied at Wick Sheriff Court, behaving in a manner likely to cause her fear and alarm, seizing hold of her wrist and refusing to let go. The court heard that Mrs Macleod encountered the accused during the dance and was coerced into dancing with him against her will. Brims, of 6 Howburn Road, Thurso, became aggressive and Mrs Macleod only managed to get away from him when another patron intervened. The court heard she had ended their year-long relationship in July.
A charge that Brims assaulted the patron, Catriona Smith, 48, from Thurso, was found not proven.
Brims, of 6 Howburn Road, Thurso, was alleged to have stalked Mrs Macleod by driving to her home, at Ravensview, Weydale, after he was ejected from the night club but the jury’s not guilty verdict on the charge was unanimous. It was also alleged that he had a knife with him but that charge was dropped.
Brims, a marine engineer said to be in a new, stable, relationship, will be sentenced on January 8 after Sheriff Andrew Berry considers a background report.
