Assault "completely unacceptable" says sheriff

A THURSO man was jailed for eight months, yesterday for an assault on a detective.
The attack happened after D.C. Charles Ross and a fellow officer called at Scott Lindsay’s home at St John’s House, in the town, on July 25, to find out why he had not turned up at a meeting he was required to attend.
David Barclay, prosecuting told the Wick Sheriff Court, that following some discussion, Lindsay struck D.C. on the left shoulder and inflicted another blow on the left side of the officer’s head.
Lindsay, 37, admitted the assault, previously, when his solicitor Fiona MacDonald said that Lindsay, who has a record, had psychological problems and had not taken his medicine when the police arrived. He was unclear about what had resulted in him being arrested and landing in the cells, although he subsequently recalled striking the officer with his hand.
Sheriff Andrew Berry said then that assaulting a police officer was “completely unacceptable”.
Lindsay’s sentence was backdated to July 26 when he first appeared from custody.
