Constable will undergo series of check-ups court told
A MAN, who bit a policeman, was jailed for eight months at Wick Sheriff Court, yesterday.
The incident occurred after Kai Thorsted, 39, was arrested and taken to the town's police station.
He bit Constable Christopher Millar, who was unconnected with Thorsted's case and was going about his duties, on the left forearm, breaking the skin. The officer was taken to Caithness General Hospital for a blood test.
Reporting on the situation, today, David Barclay, prosecuting, said that Constable Millar was awaiting the result of the test and would require further check-ups over the ensuing six months, to ascertain if there was anything untoward.
The court was told previously that, initially, Thorsted, of 6 Battery Road, Wick, had come to the attention of the police when they went to investigate an incident in Huddart Street, Wick, which had been reported to them, on July 31. The officers found Thorsted who was alone, and had facial injuries.
They attempted to establish what had happened but Thorsted began swearing at them and was arrested. He admitted charges of assault and threatening or abusive conduct.
Solicitor Fiona MacDonald said that Thorsted, who has a record, had been drinking and had no recollection of events and only realised what he had done when he was told by the police in his cell, later, and was "deeply ashamed". She added: "The accused is fully aware of what the officer is experiencing while these tests are ongoing."
