Stash worth almost £10,000 was hidden behind a tree
POLICE set a trap after intelligence led them to a substantial drugs stash hidden in a Highland wood. They allowed Adil Nolan to check on the cache which had a street value of almost £10,000 and waited until he paid a further visit - then arrested him.
Nolan, who admitted on indictment being concerned in the supply of drugs, was jailed for 31 months at Wick Sheriff Court today after appearing from custody.
The court was told that the 28-year-old, from Liverpool, was seen to approach a tree at Craig Leach Wood off the A96, in Inverness-shire, on April 16 and "rummage about on the ground". After, Nolan left, police checked the spot and exchanged the box of diamorphine which was made up in 37 packets containing various quantities, with a similar, but harmless, 'look-alike' substance.
The officers allowed Nolan to leave unhindered but kept a continuous watch. David Barclay, prosecuting, said that the accused returned the following day for a further check on the cache, and was arrested. He added that Nolan had been looking after the drugs or "housekeeping them" for " an unknown party.
Nolan, of Tollerton Road, Liverpool, claimed that he had initially come to the Highlands to sound out the market for second hand car deals and got involved in the drugs scene. The court heard that he had previously served a 30-month jail sentence for supplying drugs including crack cocaine.
