Admonished - the accused who turned his life around
A north court heard yesterday that a middle-aged man with "an appalling record"
had taken the chance he was given to turn his life around.
Sandy Johnston, 51, agreed to get treatment at a rehabilitation centre in
Inverness, last August, after being warned that if he didn't stop drinking he
would die.
The 51-year-old pleaded guilty, at the time to his latest drunken brush
with the law, earlier that month, which involved threatening to kill police
officers "stone dead" while being driven to Wick Police Station, and shouting
and swearing at them.
Wick Sheriff Court was told yesterday, that Johnston, of 25 Cairndhuna
Terrace, Wick, appeared to have turned over a new leaf, had stopped drinking and
had been of good behaviour, since his last appearance.
Honorary Sheriff Bruce de Wert said he was 'delighted' to hear that the accused had "turned the corner" and, admonishing him, expressed the hope that the progress would
continue.
