Picture the scene, elderly couple with their two grandchildren take their camper van to Thurso for the day from Melness. this couple have been visiting Melness for more than 30 years. So off they go, bit of shopping and whatever else holidaymakers do in Thurso. On the way back to Melness they decide because the sun is still shining to doodle down to the car park at Reay harbour and set up for a pick-nick for the bairns, all sounds like a good day so far, the kettle was put on and before the cakes came out a Dounreay Police car screeched to a halt in front of their van out popped a couple of tooled up coppers with guns at the ready, then the twenty questions with menace at which time the bairns were crying, now I know we are technically at war with everyone that has something that we want but to be treated like a rocket launching loony is a wee bit too strong for Caithness, methinks:confused

I think an exaggeration is ongoing here.Did they really screech up with weapons withdrawn?

I am thinking there must be a conspiracy going on, or have we been threatened by Al Quaeda whilst my back was turned? Or was it just a shock to the visitors that Dounreay police are armed with some nasty weapons?

The radiation at Sandside has clearly caused this story to mutate.

The 2 CNC screeched to a halt and got out of their heavily armoured 4x4.........they shielded their eyes in the sunlight.........looked over to the other side of the carpark, staring in disbelief..........turned and looked at each other......then one shrugged his shoulders and said "fair do, they are tourists...here's that tenner then"....

I have had some cracking conversations with the Dounreay CNC over the years.
I quite like their presence locally, keeps the local thieving scallywags on their toes.
Only bugbear is following them on a single track road at 20mph they rarely pull into a passing place.

Excuse my ignorance but what is CNC an acronym for? The coppers who patrol AWE Aldermaston, which is a couple of streets away from where I live, are known locally as Plastic Plod. :-)

These are what your CNC officer would look like when on patrol around the site and also off site patrols each has an assault rifle, hand gun and tazer. We probably have more trainned armed officers in one location here than the rest of scotlands cities put together

Or, PERISH the thought are they expecting a raid on the shipments leaving the site? I have seen a very dubious character wearing a Hezbulla type scarf locally:lol:
