On the day that it was announced that another large multi-national company (Google) has paid a pittance in tax, comes as story about how large companies are making a mockery of our tax laws.
According to the BBC, HM Revenue & Customs has won a court case brought on by UK Uncut (a campaign group who offer an alternative approach to Cameron's spending cuts)
UK Uncut claimed that the Government had come to a nice cozy deal with investment banker Goldman Sachs, in which Sachs were let off with £20 Million of its tax liabilities.
Even though the judge stated that it was "..not a glorious day for HMRC.." he gave judgement to them.
Later, HMRC said that it was not £20M that Sachs got away with , but £8M.
Now in the big scheme of things £8M is not a large amount of money, but this is just one case. How many more deals have HMRC done with other large companies?
