Unpaid work for teen who drove while disqualified
A TEENAGER, who drove while disqualified, escaped a custodial sentence at Wick Sheriff Court yesterday.
Martin Budge pleaded guilty and also admitted driving without insurance. The offences occurred in Thurso and nearby Scrabster on January 30.
Sheriff Andrew Berry ordered the 18-year-old, who has a record, to carry out 200 hours unpaid community service, expressing the hope that it would help to stop his cycle of offending.
The sheriff added that he had “seriously considered” a detention sentence and warned that any further convictions would result in a lengthy custodial term.
The court was told that Budge had since moved south, and was staying with his mother at 5 Fife Terrace, Macduff. He was disqualified from driving for two years.
