This is John L's chance to make fun of me (to a limited extent)....

Try the BBC's grammar quiz (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22512744), and report your score here.

What were your numerical scores?

I bet John gets 10/10.

SIS - you tell me yours and I will tell you mine

I'm a disappointed 7. Sorry, that should be "seven". Miss Sutherland used to hit us for using a numeral in non-technical text.

Sheesh, that more difficult than I expected. What with Fallen Subjesctive & Misplaced Modifer, things I have never heard of before, I did not do too good. So I am a "Promising pedant". Could have been worse I suppose.

Promising Pendant. Some of this, I just did not understand.

5/10; that's a Secondary Modern education for you. [lol]

I only managed to score 5/10.

I have to admit that I did not understand some of the grammatical terms. And, yes, I am fluent in English - or so I thought. (Please explain the errors in the statement I just made, if any - I would love to know).

The only time that (which?) I was taught grammar was in Primary School, and after that innocent time in Primary school, all of the rules fell by the wayside.

I got 8/10... the Gerund and the misplaced modifier did for me!

9 - but some luck involved!Which one did you get wrong?

I was convinced that one of their answers was wrong - so much so that I studied the question and the answer at the same time in order to try to understand what they were claiming. I now think their answer is right, but it was too subtle for me!

John, are you too modest to state in public that you got 10/10?

I got question 3 wrong.

Read this sentence carefully. "I'd like to introduce you to my sister Clara, who lives in Madrid, to Benedict, my brother who doesn't, and to my only other sibling, Hilary." Which of the following is correct?

1. Hilary is male

2. Hilary is female

3. It's impossible to know from the context

What is the right answer, and why?
