Can anyone tell me if there are any public ponds around the wick area suitable for model boats?

I do not think there are ponds such as you would find in public parks.

On a slightly larger scale wwhy not try the Trinkie or the North Baths. See

At least they are enclosed from the point of view that boats will not be washed away. They are a bit deep far wading in to rescue a boat.

If you want to go abit out of wick take look at where the model yacht club operates - Loch Sarclet by Thrumster

Try contacting the local model boat club. They sail at the pond at thurso river most sunday mornings. I know you said in the wick area but they are a very plaesant bunch and i am sure one of thier wick members would give you a lift up if needed. You would also get some tips etc and i am sure sailing with other people would be more fun than sailing by yourself.

I would love there to be a duck pond in Caithness. I used to love going to the pond and feeding the ducks. the nearest i can have to that is to feed all the lovely ducks off the road towards Papigoe/Staxigoe. Its lovely to go and feed the ducks, the turkey, goats and sheep. there used to be a huge vietnamese pot bellied pig there too. children love going there.

There's ducks (and a swan) at the boating pond in Thurso.

When i used to do the model boats we often went up to the wee loch at Noss head. Dont know what the crack would be now as you have to go inside the main gate, but nobody bothered us then!:)
