A Midsummer Night’sScream

short story competition

Writea story of no more than 500 words, opening with the following line –

“It was midnight, but still it wasn’t dark.”The storyshould have elements of suspense, mystery and fantasy – we expect the unexpected, so let yourimagination run wild!
There arethree age categories – under 12yrs, 12-17yrs, 18+.
PRIZES IN EACHCATEGORY – to be announced soon. All winners’entries will be read out at a special event taking place during ‘A Midsummernight’s Scream’, June 21st–23rd .
Entries shouldbe sent via email to entries@screamthurso.co.uk (entries@screamthurso.co.uk) with the following subject heading – ‘shortstory’. Above the title of your story please put the following –
Your name,your age, your email address and a contact telephone number.

By entering the competition you areagreeing to the following terms and conditions.

Entry
Entry is free – only one submissionper person. Entries must be submitted with the correct entrant information.Work must be entirely your own – the judges have the right to disqualify anyentries they have reason to believe are plagiarised.
All entries must be submitted bymidnight on May 31st 2013 – any entries received after this will notbe considered by the judges. Preferred entry format Word.doc file, 12pt withdouble spacing. Entries can be sent by post to ‘Scream Short Story, North CoastLeisure Centre, Bettyhill, by Thurso, KW14 7SS. Entries submitted in printedform cannot be returned. Prizewinners in each category will be notified by June 15th 2013.
A Midsummer Night’s Scream, in itsdiscretion, is entitled to publish entries received on an individual storybasis or in collection form.
Judging
Judges will consider all qualifyingentries in each category and the decision of the judges is final.
Copyright
Entrants will retain copyright intheir story. Each Entrant warrants that the Entrant is the owner of allcopyright interests in the Entrant’s story and indemnifies A Midsummer Night’sScream against any claim made by any third party in relation to the story.
Each Entrant grants A Midsummer Night’sScream, as a condition of entry to the award:
• a non-exclusive perpetual licence touse the entry (or any part of the entry) to promote A Midsummer Night’s Scream,including (without limitation) in both digital and print form and to exhibitall or any part of the entry in public places and on the www.screamthurso.co.uk (http://www.screamthurso.co.uk/) and connected websites; and
• a non-exclusive licence to exhibit orpublish the entry for the purposes of A Midsummer Night’s Scream, including pre-selection, judging, exhibit onthe screamthurso.co.uk website during the award competition and subsequentpublication of the award winners and finalists.
AMidsummer Night’s Scream will credit the author where possible. A Midsummer Night’s Scream will endeavour toprevent non-authorised reproduction of the entry, but is not liable for anysuch reproduction.

The lightbulb, suspended above the stairs, mysteriously wouldn't turn off. Then I remembered I live in Portgower.
