Subsea has new technology in the pipeline

SUBSEA 7 which has the Wester pipeline fabrication yard as one of its two Scottish plants, is expanding its operation in Houston.
It will add the flagship vessel the Seven Borealis to its holdings and is building a new Westgate office in Houston’s energy corridor.
The company is also working on what it calls a step-change in technology for the thermal insulation of subsea pipelines. It has set up an integrated project team in Houston with Noble Energy, to work on a trace heating flowline system. That is destined for a deepwater subsea field in offshore west Africa which would use electrically trace-heated pipe-in-pipe technology.
The firm employes a worldwide workkforce of more than 14,000, including 1,500 at Westhill, near Aberdeen, and 150 at Wester.
