Schools Out by Alice Cooper, 1971 I think. My mother was mortified! Nah, it would've been 1972. Was also the first (but nowhere near the last) Alice Cooper thing that I bought. Very first single I bought was 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood' by The Animals. 1965 ? Think I got it with a birthday record token. I was just a young thing at the time.

I can't remember what the first singles or LP's I bought were, but I did go on to buy 3000+ singles and 500+ albums which were well played in my days as a DJ but I sold almost all of them when I gave it up to get a real job. Great days indeed, which I look back on fondly, but I don't have the stamina now for burning the candle at both ends.

Thanks Kodiak for Russ Conway, it was bugging me because I couldn't remember his name. I doubt it was Clayderman that Torvaig bought, she's 'ahem'...no spring chicken, (No offence T).

With risk of shame, it was one of 'the smurf' records in the late 70s. But I would have only been about 5 so maybe you'll let me off!

The Russ Conway Recordings that I remember was "Side Saddle" and "Roulette" both of which were No 1 Hits in 1959. If you want to hear what Side Saddle was like click on the link below :-

Could it be either Richard Clayderman or Russ Conway?

No, it was an Irish fellow who wasn't as famous as the two above. I found it in the classical selection, gave it a whirl and splashed out my meagre stash of birthday cash on it! Wish I still had it....

No Pat but thanks for the suggestion! This fellow wasn't a famous charts topper, he was a classical player..... no matter, not important.....

Saved up money I made taking Dandelion & Burdock bottles back to the newsagents for my dad until I had 89p to go to Woolies. I bought 'Oblivious' by Aztec Camera - looking at it now (which I am) brings back lots of memories.

The first record (45 rpm) I bought was Whispering Grass by Don Estelle and Windsor Davies way back in the 70's. The first album I bought was Hotter Than July, Stevie Wonder. To this day I think it is still a classic album. Quite a diverse choice.

Michael O'Sullivan perhaps?

Depends on his age Aaldtimer! I am sure I bought the LP in the sixties when I left school and started earning some dosh. We didn't even have a record player at the time but that didn't matter; I had a record!

Pat, I have just had a look through a dusty collection of LPs and it is amazing what you find! I have found "Phil Coulter's IRELAND" but I am not convinced that it was my first record. It is dated 1985 and I am sure I bought my first long before then, ahem....

In my search for my first album I also came across "The BEATLES" white album cover with a copy of "STRINGS FOR PLEASURE PLAY JOHN, PAUL, GEORGE AND RINGO" 1975 and two copies of "THE BEATLES" from 1968.

I only bought them recently and had forgotten all about it.

There is also a poster with the words of 28 songs on one side and many photographs of the famous four (colour and black and white) on the other along with a wee sketch of a couple, presumably John and Yoko.

Must play them sometime.....
