Opportunities in local construction projects

HIGHLAND Council members are keen for local businesses to get involved in a ‘Meet the Buyer Event” being organised by Miller Construction in Wick on Wednesday 27 March from 1:30 – 5pm at Mackays Hotel.
Leader of the Caithness and Sutherland Area Councillor Deirdre Mackay said: “It is vital that local businesses involved in the construction industry take this opportunity and attend the ‘Meet the Buyer Event’ being organised for them in Wick.
“The Highland Council understands the importance of local business to our local economies and their contribution to vibrant communities, therefore I urge businesses to take this chance and find out more about future opportunities in the area including The Highland Council’s Wick Project.”
The Wick Project includes the development of a new Wick Campus (incorporating the ‘South of the River’ Primary School, High School and East Caithness Community Facilities) on the Wick High/Pulteneytown Academy Primary School site, and the new ‘North of the River’ Primary School to be built on the current North Primary School site.
As a Tier 1 contractor with hub North Scotland Limited, Miller Construction is preferred bidder on a £50m pipeline of work to be delivered over the next three years in Wick and Tain and is seeking suitable local partners to deliver these projects and others when they arise.
Businesses of all construction disciplines, in Wick, the wider north eastern Highlands and Orkney, are invited to register for the event being held at Mackays Hotel, Union Street, Wick, KW1 5ED on Wednesday, 27 March 2013, for the opportunity to find out more about working with Miller Construction on upcoming and future projects. Interested parties are requested to email: mtbwick@miller.co.uk to register their details.
Representatives from Miller Construction will be present on the day to answer project specific questions and advise subcontractors and suppliers on how to become a Miller supply chain member.
Miller has also invited key organisations to participate on the day and will be joined by representatives from hub North Scotland Limited, Highland Opportunity, Business Gateway and Construction Skills. Highland Opportunity will be providing practical information and assistance to local SME’s involved in the Construction industry looking to maximise on the potential opportunities. Business Gateway will be in attendance, offering support and advice, and Construction Skills will be on hand to give employment support and staff training information.
