Just to let people know that there is a telephone scam going around at the moment, basically they phone you saying that they are from the UK government finance department and that the government is refunding money to you, they then proceed to ask for your bank account details.

Simply put, never ever hand out your bank details to anyone who phones you. Even if you think they are genuine just do not do it.

I'm getting a bit fed up with these calls -I've tried, at the callers suggestion, to press 9 to stop the calls but they just keep calling. Only one today do far.

As far as I know you can't block international calls, that is one reason some companies are using call centre's outwith the UK.

Block nuisance calls with the BT6500Tired of rushing to the phone for unwanted calls, recorded messages or simply silence?
The BT6500's flexible menu options make it easy to choose the calls you want to receive – and those you don't. With just a few clicks you can block:

Types of call

Withheld
Anonymous (no caller ID)
International
Payphone

Specific numbers

All calls – except for 'VIP' numbers selected by you

Blocked calls are silenced and sent straight to answerphone – unless the number has been specifically blocked (option 2). This functionality blocks up to 80% of nuisance/unwanted calls. You can change your settings at any time in the phone menu.

Thanks so much for that ! These calls drive me mad. Kodiak, I have just spoken to BT (0800100400) and they confirmed that this phone will block International calls. I had to phone them because I am not a BT customer, that's not a problem though, I just have to phone the product placement helpdesk (if anybody else is interested) on 0800 145 6789.

Thanks again little miss breezy breeks !

Sorry, I should have tried the second number for the product placement helpdesk before putting it on here ! The options do'nt seem to be directing me to the right place, so I think I will order it online !

I have had a good look at this True Call Box and I think it is a fantastic idea. I am going to save up and buy one, £99.99, as it will save me money in the long run as I will be able to stop paying BT for all the extras that I now pay them. :Razz

cannot more highly recommend one

it is just SO clever and configurable as to what you can do

its an answer phone
its a call screener

anyone that rings [that you have not already added to your allow list]w
ill be given a customised script to either say their name and wait
[truecall rings your phone and asks YOU if you want to speak to them or not]
or b&gger off!!

its transparent to known numbers you put into it

it'll TOTALLY kill all spoof calls & debt collection [DCA] rubbish.

making it appear to anyone you wish to put on your zap list
that the line is disconnected

I also had a phone call, like this the other night, they asked did I want a cheque or putnsraightninto my account so I played along and said cheque they then asked could I tell them details to verify who I was using by bank card name date of birth address, I told them I did not need my bank card as I already knew these answers the man got rather annoyed and said go get your bank card he was then told if he was even had the slightest bit of sence he would try getting his facts straight before trying to scan me as a bank card does not have dob address or even shoe size on it idiots
